Winter Affection

It has stopped snowing;
Plows are roaring down the road;
Tree limbs are frozen.

Slanting lines of snow
Fall over the rooster's crow
Secure in his barn.

Small frosted fir tree;
Is it waiting for Christmas
Or just practicing?

Takeover by ghosts
Who have painted the woods white
In a winter's dream.

Flashing its red lights
School bus stops in falling snow;
A two hour delay.

Violet and white tipped
Sumac looks like ice cream cone
Waiting to be licked.

Hugging tree trunk
Bows provide snowy embrace.
Winter affection.

With its mouth agape
Tree monster swims in the snow.
It's getting nowhere.

Old telephone book
Survives its sixth hard winter
Stuck between two trees.
