The Silence is Smooth

In another field
A bright patch of sun appears
As a different world.

How bright the barn doors:
How dark the interiors.
Clank of milk buckets.

A white elephant?
Snow islands float on the stream
Which flows beneath them.

It's softer today;

Shadows are much less sharp;
The silence is smooth.

A dark valley here
And a giant round white mountain.
It's all point of view.

Repeating road signs
Guide the cars around the turn.
Redundant on foot.

Wooden tentacles
Creep above the frozen stream
Encrusted with snow.

Where are the children?
"At Play" or so the sign says.
I never see them.
