Softened by the Snow
Twenty-one degrees;
The sun is bright and shining.
It is a heat wave.
Shadows on the roofs
Display the thin bare branches,
Softened by the snow.
Soaring to the tree
The crow seems to float upward,
Landing at the top.
A very small wind
Rolls an ice chill down the road
Blistering my face.
Today, sun gives warmth,
But, when the clouds conceal it,
The air is frozen.
Despite the fir trees,
The big boulder in the woods
Is topped with snow.
Returning sunshine
Brings shadows to the forest,
Sparkles to the snow.
Windows are frosted
In the old abandoned house;
Heat has fled from it.
