Silent Snow Returns

From the sky and ground
Whirling and falling blankly:
Silent snow returns.

Swiftly fading tracks
Disappear into whiteness--
Lone car in the snow.

Something nudged my hand;
I turned around to see it.
There was only snow.

White ghostly phantom
Swirls swiftly up from the ground,
Joins the falling snow.

The bend in the road
Stranger now in its whiteness;
A new mystery

Open tongued mail box
Slurps in the fallen snow flakes
For its morning drink.

There's no one here;
The road is blank and whitening;
I walk in the middle.

Blowing from the west,
Snow paints eastern tree sides;
Natural compass.
