Tree Totem Watches

A bird keeps trilling,
Hidden in the leafy tree.

There is no answer.

Gray cat, gray bucket
Merge into drinking couple,
Active and passive.

First, one rooster crows;,
Then another from the barn.
It's truly cock talk.

On the placid stream
There is barely a ripple.
A morning dove coos.

The stone saint presides
Over a sea of light blue.
(He won't walk on it.)

A door slams somewhere;
Chain saw buzzes far ahead;
Leaves shake in the breeze.

Tree totem watches
As its neighbor is chopped up
And carted away.

Behind the barbed wire
That wraps around the tree trunks
New green leaves flourish.
