Wind Dances the Snow

From the other room
A soft murmur of voices;
Outside, snow plow scrapes.

Cold pastures of white
Lie just outside my back door.
(Not there yesterday)

Olivia's nose
Is covered with flakes of snow.
White swirls on the pond.

Wind dances the snow
From one swirl to another,
Then sings in the woods.

Misty fog of snow
Obscuring the road ahead
Vanishes in sun.

Erased by the snow
The street sign looks on blankly
Without a message.

Evergreen sapling,
Born just a few months ago
Enjoys first winter.

Abandoned bird nest
Has a new white winter cap
But no baby birds.
