Rippliing Mirror

A flat blue gray light
Covers the road and my lawn.
Large plow rumbles past.

Several large snow flakes
Drifting slowly to the ground
Disappear in white.

The wind in the woods
With its restless whispers
Starts and then it stops.

Ice grip is released;
The stream is flowing freely;
Rippling mirror.

 At edge of the road
A soggy piece of brown bark,
Discarded by tree.

Sunlight on the road--
Thin clear slices of brightness;
Then it melts away.

Some cars creep along
On this treacherous ice morn;
Some pickups just zoom by.

Wind is picking up;
Then it quiets to whispers
Unseen in the woods.
