Frozen in their Time

A ray of sunshine
Slips onto the roadside snow,
Then flickers away.

Upstairs and downstairs
Machines are humming softly.
The house is alive.

Cracks in the barn door
Shed bright light in the darkness.
Message from outside.

Island in the stream
Bears stiff upright frozen plants
Waiting for the Spring.

Groping for the sky
Thin branches reaching  upward
Ask supplication.

Footprints become forms--
Dark memories in the ice,
Frozen in their time.

Small sunlit snow balls
Cast dark shadows in the white--
White white and black black.

Ancient tree monster
Swallowed a mouth full of snow;
(But can't even chew!)
