Spill Out Their Last Seeds

On kitchen table
Vase holds three giant roses;
Wait! They are not real.

In rhododendron
Brown leaves are curled and nestled.
They'll be there ' til Spring.

The dry milkweed pods--
Shiny silver filaments
Spill out their last seeds.

Broken iron pipe
Conquered by snow and bushes
Can't hold up the fence.

Hardy brown ivy
Grows next to the evergreen;
(Maybe it's poison).

How many more leaves
Will drop to forest floor
Before the snow comes?

Little white flowers
have become skeleton blooms--
Thin fingers of Fall.

Giant leaves zoom down
Hit the road with a loud "tick"
Congregating there.
