At the Edge of Spring

Sunny memories
Pour from the whisper of Spring;
It's the cruelest month.

Snow, sun and shadows
Mix on this sunny morning
With the sky blue sky.

My fallen mailbox
Nuzzling in the snow bank.
No care in the world.

Two birds on a wire
Watching me as I watch them;
Then they drift away.

Rock in rushing stream--
Above or below water?
(The rock doesn't care).

Wood and snow tangled,
A tumbled winter's refuse
At the edge of Spring.

Light green and hopeful
April crocuses announce:
Winter is over!

Glittering sparkles
Float on the back of the stream
Heading who know where?
