A Snake in the Grass!

Balmy Spring morning;
Bushes are alive with birds;
Clouds cover the sky.

Female cardinal's here;
She turns with food in her mouth
To watch for danger

Loud woodpecker pecks--
Hollow persistent rattle.
All insects beware!

Hidden by the trees--
High beyond the horse's barn
Large mansion house stands.

So slow the stream flows;
Thriving patches of green moss
Do not fear the flood.

Olivia waits
As Collette sniffs her behind:
Bovine distraction.

Swift sliver of light
Slides just outside my vision:
A snake in the grass!
