A Few Small Twigs Crack

My taxes today
Overshadow the bright snow;
Have to have fresh air.

The rolling snow bank
Has occupied my front porch
For the whole winter.

Even the old post
Takes on its own strange beauty
In bright snow sunshine.

High above the trees
White jet stream slices the sky.
Wind creaks the old barn.

Slowly brown patches
Advance in the frozen snow.
There is no retreat.

Through the stark tree limbs
A snow covered trampoline
And a frozen grill.

Patches in the snow
Glisten wet and mirror like,
Heralding the thaw.

Faster than a blink
Three deer float across the road;
A few small twigs crack.
