Shedding Their Own Light

Yellow and golden;
Plush green with imposed black stripes;
Out my front window.

There are no birds now,
No chipmunks and no squirrels;
(No food in feeder.)

Dandelions grow
At the start of pathway
Welcome all who come.

Top of the long driveway
Black and white cat sits, watches
Over her kingdom.

New green sprout springs up
From the forsythia's top--
Flower breeds flower.

Above the stream bed
Vital plant grows and prospers;
(The stream bed is dry.)

The old roadside pond
Not filled with water today.
Shadows not substance.

Pink flowers unfold
In warmth of the morning sun
Shedding their own light.
