Green Phosphorescence

Warmth is in the air;
Squirrel and birds eat on the porch,
Ignore each other.

With his tail twitching
And his nose fixed to the ground
Squirrel vacuums the seeds.

I forgot my hat;
A few birds are singing now;
Is it Springtime?

Two holes in the snow;
Frozen stream presents itself--
Two liquid mirrors.

At edge of the sky
Crows argue with each other.
Other crows join in.

Lichen covered bark
Lies on the filthy snow bank--
Green phosphorescence.

A single pine cone
Lies on the melting snow bank
Eons from its source.

The woods are silent
Their shrill winter song muted.
Just a few birds sing.
