The Sky is Unfolding

The sky is unfolding;
Gossamer white floats to earth
The world is a blur.

They are so silent,
These billion flakes of fine snow;
Landing without sound.

Bobbing in the bushes,
Birds dance lightly in the snow
Shifting foot to foot.

The road is crunchy;
I stop, listen to silence
And the wind's murmur.

Vast blankness settles
On the road and in the woods--
Absence of color.

The bend is unknown;
For in the road is blankness;
Pick-Up disappears.

Dead leaf in the road--
Darkness in a field of white.
Old tree creaks in woods.

Coming and going--
My tracks are slowly erased;
Soon, they're memories.

I pause and listen;
Silence as vast as the snow
Descends upon me.
