Dim Eye in the Sky

Dim eye in the sky;
Sun shines through a cataract
Of milky white clouds.

It's too cold to snow;
Even the clouds hang frozen
In the blank stillness.

Thin plants shivering;
Rough the wind upon their limbs
As it passes through.

The errant fence post
Leaning against his fellow
With savoir faire

It's so bitter cold
That my fingers freeze at once
When they leave their gloves.

Sinewy fat vine
Snake itself through the bush
Turns into shadows.

Frozen footsteps lie
Undisturbed where they were left;
Their owners moved on.

The tree stump is blank;
All rough spots have been removed;
Snow is the smoother.
