Look Out On Nothing

Familiar white glow
From the blanket in my yard;
The snow is frozen.

 Upstairs, there are sounds--
Two people are getting up.
I am getting out.
Tantalizing sun
Picks shyly through the thick clouds
Shedding hopeful light.
Fence in front of fence
Keeping away the keep out--
Must be a tough job.
Birds in the bushes
Darting in and darting out
Never find their place.
From the dead tree stump
A slender beige branch protrudes.
Is it alive? Dead?
On the snowy hill
Forest of dead trees reside--
Pulled, cut, ripped and stacked.
Two wooden windows
Standing side by side outside
Look out on nothing.
