Sun Falls Silently

A welcoming sun
Sprinkles on the dusted snow
On the porch railing.

Road sign is leaning;
Maybe it's bracing itself
For the passing eyes.

In morning sunlight
Blue fir seems to spring to life,
Its needles lit up.

Without chirp or tweet
Group of birds flies from the roof--
A thunder of wings.

Perfectly balanced
Dead branch in crotch of the tree--
Natural stabile.

In the still woods
There's a blanket of quiet;
Sun falls silently.

Sunlight through the pines
Illuminates the needles
And tickles my heart.

Wasn't fast enough:
Water dripping from the rock
Frozen in midair.
