Shining Like a Dream
Pale shards of sunshine
Break through the thick snow clouds.
No snow yet, just light.
Humming transformer--
Only sound for an instant;
Then the cars swish by.
Plants spring from the ice;
Shiver in the frigid wind
As if they're alive.
Pale ice flowers bloom
Above the babbling stream.
They don't need the sun.
In the frigid stillness
Even the crows are silent.
Only the wind speaks.
I stop for a pee
Knowing no cars will see me;
(They look straight ahead).
Through the dim forest
The wind blows a path of light
Shining like a dream.
Suspended in air,
Tree limbs stopped in their descent
By a fellow branch.
