Snow Prints to Spring
Dripping icicles--
Water and sunshine abound
On your birthday, Ma.
The plane's hum is gentle,
Accenting the clear blue sky.
Old cow is sleeping.
Footsteps in the snow
Are walking into the Spring
Under a bright sun.
More than just the light--
A new dimensionality
Emerges from trees.
Hanging from a bush
Two big snow clumps are waiting.
Will they drop or melt?
Even the shadows
Are warm and friendly today;
Even the soft breeze.
Hidden bird warbles;
Unseen plane moves across sky;
Shadows are silent.
There's no need for gloves;
Even my coat is too warm.
When did this happen?
Suspended in bush
Piece of bark in its descent;
Dead leaf in mid air.
On the long driveway
Shadows have replaced the ice.
Something flutters by.
On pick-up's window
Snow is a jig saw puzzle
Never to be solved.
