Rolling Back Winter

Drops of melting snow
Fall upon the wooden porch.
My cat scarfs tuna.

Buried flower pot
Peeks out from under the snow
And sees the sunshine.

Edge of the snow field--
Patches of brown earth appear
Rolling back winter.

Dirty gray snow banks
Line the road where they've been pushed:
Refuse of winter.

Patch of magic lawn
Reappears after a sleep;
Glowing of green moss.

Now the bend is bright;
Just one of its many moods.
(Now, my heart's longing)

Ferns grow from the rock
Adding their green to the moss.
Behind them, the brown earth.

Piece of the stone wall
Emerges from the snow bank
Washed clean by winter.
