Geese Call Across the Sky
Leaf window shadow;
A cold October morning;
Dove sits on a wire.
Walking down the road
Gray haired man hunches forward--
Shadow of myself?
Garlanding tree stump
Luminescent red leaf strand.
Geese call across sky.
Trembling in the breeze
Sharp shadows on the fence post
Try to come to life.
Follow the leader
Small birds hop from branch to branch;
Below, squirrel bustles.
Pine needles, dead leaves
As far as the eye can see
Soften forest floor.
Yellow, brown and red
The woods slip into autumn
Like a party dress.
Gracefully bending
Vibrant green ferns against brown;
Unfazed by autumn.
Shaking in the breeze
Milkweed seeds try to break free
From the mother pod.
