Fetish of an owl
Stands on a russet carpet,
Propped up by the tree.

"Please don't feed the goats";
The cow walks blithely past it.
She does not worry.

Crows in the slate gray sky
Circle above yellow trees.
There is no sunshine.

Solitary leaf
Caught in the camera's eye;
Million others missed.

Hanging from the branch
A few dead leaves still remain--
The whim of the wind.

En route to the ground
Two red leaves catch in the trunk;
Not far from home.

Rustle on the road--
My feet crush a leaf carpet;
Pickup swirls it up.

Instant of sunshine
Lights up leaves and throws shadows;

Then it disappears.

"Natural Value,"
The scouring pad label says
Resting in nature.

Small asters still bloom
Whiter on the brown background--
Forecast of the snow.

Shadows to the tree
Run across the leaf strewn woods
Like two dark pathways.

Some light rimmed bushes
In their moment of glory
Back lit by the sun.
