A Single Crow Caws
Gray sky full of crows,
Unseen, loud and jabbering.
Air is warm and soft.
How bare the barn looks
Framed by naked tree branches.
A single crow caws.
A small fishing net
Abandoned at the stream's edge.
Where has the child gone?
Beat up pickup stops;
Friend unburdens broken heart;
Sadness in the air.
A woodpecker thrums
Hollowly in the brown woods
On a naked tree.
In green fir branches
Suspended animation
As dead leaves hang trapped.
Outside the empty house--
Upside down abandoned chair,
A piece of lost art.
Winter red in fall
Before snow white, the berries;
Slide of the seasons.
