Old Steel Guardian

Morning sunlight falls
On my table with pictures.
(It's a photo op.)

 The old lilac bush
Did not flower last Spring.
It's taking a break.

No birds ever come
To this sad little bird house.
Gift from a dead man.

Two chickens are out
Taking a leisurely stroll
Outside their wire fence.

The dead brown pine branch
Suspended for many days
Refuses to fall.

Rusted flat roller
Is now part of the forest:
Old steel guardian.

Loud car radio
Overpowers the bird's chirps;
Then it fades away.

Goldenrod, milkweed
And strange wispy spider plants
Reclaim the garden.
