Only the Sun Knows

Just another day;
Always walking the same walk,
(Knowing it's different.)

Bushy lilac tree
Seems on the edge of blooming;
Still, no lavender.

Lone dandelion
Shining among the brown leaves
Brings the sun to earth.

Where do shadows end?
And where does substance begin?
Only the sun knows.

Two crows arguing,
Slicing the heavens thinly
Don't receive a piece.

Three rotten tree trunks--
Congregation of the dead,
Meet and decompose.

It has disappeared--
The field of dandelions.
(Was it just a dream?)

Shedding bright sunlight
Roadside stream flows quietly.
Wind builds in the woods.
