Gray as gray can be--
Sky shines upon upon the white snow
Without a sparkle.
Green, gray, brown and white--
The colors from my front porch.
Beyond me, fridge hums.
Olivia takes
Her standard mid morning sniff:
Collette's fragrant ass.
Against the gray sky
Trees provide dark silhouettes.
All color is gone.
Against the gray sky
Trees provide dark silhouettes.
All color is gone.
Against the link fence
Log pushes and snow bank heaves--
Winter is winning!
Poking through the snow--
Thin brown twigs and evergreens;
Life/death side by side.
There's always one leaf
Caught in its downward descent
Suspended 'til Spring.
Springing from a rock
Solitary and erect:
Miracle sumac!
