You were born this day;
Gone for nearly nineteen years.
I still hear you laugh.
Wild geese distant cries
Floating through the blue gray mist
Appear--Disappear.
Blue jay and the squirrel
Partake in a joint breakfast.
Squirrel stays--blue jay flees.
Brown pine cones, beige earth--
Early springtime but no blooms.
Gray clouds move slowly.
Floating through the sky
Hawk becomes its own shadow:
Visual echo.
Bedded in snow bank
Fallen leaf has found its home,
'Til both are washed away.
Pathway in the woods
Has no beginning or end--
Only mystery.
Such a gentle tap;
Such a giant woodpecker;
Then both disappear.
