Birds Fly, Sail and Swoop

 Gray downcast day;
Cluster fly climbs up window;
All's well in the world.

Mysterious nest
Tumbled out of the porch light
As I changed the bulb.

Not a speck of sun;
Clouds have conquered the sky;
Birds fly, sail and swoop.

Collette on the grass
Nibbles the tender blades:
Bovine lawn mower.

Spring is surely here--
Buttercups and their bright light
Shed yellow presence.

With proboscis out
Honey bee sucks the juices
From the passive bloom.

All in a huddle
Three goats communicating
What only they know.

Lighting on the bloom
Honey bee fits its color;
(Accessorizing)

Beauty Without Use

Chipmunk in feeder
Beats out his squirrel relatives
(Because he's light).

Late morning sunlight
Filters through the leaves once more;
(Chipmunk's back again).

Dandelion puff
Achieves total symmetry
Before it dissolves.

My good friend Mabel
Pokes her long nose through the fence
Just to say hello.

Beyond leaning fence
A dry stream bed doesn't run.
Beauty without use.

Swift and slithering
The snake has come to a stop;
(A permanent stop.)

Green and brown hanging
Together on some tree limbs--
Cycle of life/death.

Scent of fresh lilacs
Floating down on the May breeze
Precedes the purple.

A Work in Progress

 Bunny on my lawn
Freezes for eternity,
Then, poof! Disappears.

Shadow in bushes
Is the tree that stands behind--
Phantom or substance?

Olivia's ear
Ready for Collette's licking;
(That's what friends are for.)

In the field beyond
The girls dance and sing in French
A song from my past.

High in the blue sky
Round and around the hawks fly;
No lazy circles.

Woodpecker sculptures
Continue on the dead tree.
(A work in progress)

As if from nowhere:
Pale blue flowers near the road--
Spring awakening.

A firefly lands
On my notebook, as I write--
Good place, but wrong time.
